WIMBIZ backs Okonjo-Iweala for World Bank job

Women in Management and Business, WIMBIZ, has expressed support for the candidature of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the presidency of the World Bank.

In a statement, WIMBIZ emphasized Dr Okonjo-Iweala’s wide experience as a seasoned economist who has made remarkable contributions to global economy since she assumed duties at the World Bank about 25 years ago.

According to WIMBIZ, of all the three candidates, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala is the most qualified and this has been attested to by the support she has received not only from Africa, but also even from the USA and Europe, the largest voting block at the World Bank.

Chairperson, WIMBIZ, Mrs. Adeola Azeez, described Okonjo-Iweala as a principled and indefatigable woman whose capability to lead as World Bank president if voted in cannot be underestimated.

She further stated that her qualifications and achievements are widely known and need no elaborate articulation.

According to her, Okonjo-Iweala would not have had the support of Nigeria, South Africa and other emerging economies if it is not merited.

She said, “She stands as a symbol of principled hard work and a role model, who is well poised to take on the leadership of the World Bank.

“Twenty-Five out of her working life has been spent at the World Bank, an experience that cannot be attributed to any of the other 2(two) contestants. Thus, she certainly does not need a familiarization tour of the World Bank as she is already primed to take up the mantle of leadership once she ascends to the office of the president.”

Also speaking, Mrs. Funmi Roberts, Member, Board of Trustees, WIMBIZ, observed that Okonjo-Iweala’s pedigree cannot be in issue and praised the courage that has propelled her to seek to lead the World Bank.
