PORT HARCOURT: TOTAL has donated items worth thousands of naira to four charity homes in Obio Akpo and Port Harcourt local government areas in Rivers state.
Manager Public Relations, Port Harcourt district of the oil giant, Mr. NorbertIkwuazom who led the company’s team on the donations said it was a regular exercise, adding that it was one way the firm reaches out to the underprivileged in society.
Items they gave out included beverages, toiletries, soaps, beddings and other consumables running into thousands of naira. Charity homes visited were the Elderly Home, Harbour road, Poor of Love Crucified, Akpajo, Child Special, Kaduna Street and Global Foundation for Orphanage children, Ikwerre road.
At the Elderly Home on Harbour road, the Matron, Rev Sister Mary-Jane Raphael thanked the oil firm and appealed for more support from companies and public spirited persons for charity homes. She said the major problem facing these homes was finance. According to her, some of the roofs were leaking at her home.
She also enjoined children of the elderly parents in her home to always keep in touch with their parents. “Some of them here don’t have children. Those that have we beg their children to come and help stay by their parents when they are on admission at the hospital. We don’t have enough staff so we can’t send the few we have to stay by any of the elderly here at the hospital. So we beg these children to be of little help to their parents”, she pleaded.
