Sapele community petitions NGC over gas explosion

WARRI—THE People of Oton quarters in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, have petitioned Nigerian Gas Company, NGC, over a gas explosion, which occurred March 28 in the quarters, demanding immediate clean-up of the affected areas.

The people, in the petition to the Managing Director of the company at Ekpan-Warri, are asking the company to urgently send relief materials to the quarters as well as pay the medical bills of those hospitalised.

They are also calling on NGC to negotiate with the affected families with a view to paying compensation to those whose farms were destroyed by the explosion.

The petition by chairmen and secretaries of Abeke, Obire and Okotie families as well as landlords, representatives in the quarters, was also copied to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan;  Senate Committee on Oil and Gas Resources, Chairman; Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Oil and Gas as well as the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Benin, Edo State.

It was gathered that the company’s 3-inch Condense Return Pipeline on Ugberikoko Road, Gana, Sapele, which exploded recently, negatively affected the aquatic and agricultural lives of the areas.
