Ado-Ekiti — Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Maishanu, has said court nullification of the aspect of Police Order Act requiring police permit before rallies, is hampering the force from checkmating the excess of politicians.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ekiti State, the commissioner said, however, that he was not advocating for a reintroduction of the law.
Maishanu called on politicians and other stakeholders to work out an acceptable way of conducting their affairs with some level of modicum.
He identified INEC, security agencies, court and politicians as major stakeholders in the conduct of election, adding that if all the sectors do their jobs as expected, there would be credible elections.
Earlier, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, Alhaji Hussein Pai, had reminded politicians of the need to adhere strictly to the law guiding the conduct of elections, adding that INEC would at all time remain unbiased to all political parties.
