PORT HARCOURT— DIRECTOR General, National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, has called for re-certification of packaged water factories in the country.
He said the need arose because of the unhygienic environment in which some of them operate. Represented by the Deputy Director in charge of Regulatory Affairs, Mrs. Jane Omojokun, at a workshop in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for producers of packaged water in Rivers and Bayelsa States, he said the re-certification would help check abnormalities in the industry.
He said some producers were using chemicals such as chlorine improperly, adding that domestic ultra violet lights, disconnection of filtration equipment and high density polyethylene as primary packaging materials should be used properly.
He said: “The purpose of the workshop is for us to rub minds on how to reduce consumers’ complaints and equip you with necessary tools to achieve good manufacturing practices.”
