Arewa Youth for Democracy, at the weekend, in Kano, took on the second republic member of the House of Representatives, Dr Junaidu Muhammad, over his outburst against the Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, giving him two weeks to retract the offensive statement or risk court action.
Addressing reporters in Kano, the publicity secretary of the organization, Alhaji Bashir Hayatu Gentile, described as ‘unfortunate’ the statement credited to the Kano-born former parliamentarian in a serialized interview last week.
Gentile dismissed as “brazen, the attempt to malign the character of an impeccable public officer”, on the pages of newspapers and noted that the issues raised by the Chairman, Coalition of Northern Politicians are “untruths to tarnish the image of the CBN Governor and, by extension, the good people of the north that he represents”.
Junaidu ran into trouble with the group in the interview where he made allegations on properties allegedly owned by the Sanusi in Kano, and also criticized the donation of N100million to the January 20 victims of Kano bomb blasts.
Gentile said the group resolved in an emergency meeting in Kano to take on Junaidu for his attacks on “the highly placed northerner as a deterrent to those involved in throwing stones at those occupying positions of trust” without recourse to the implications.
Efforts to hear the side of the former MP failed as calls to his GSM phone did not go through.
