The Awolowo we knew, by HID, daughter

ABEOKUTA—Wife of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Mrs, H.I.D Awolowo has described her late husband as a loving, caring and affectionate partner.

Speaking yesterday at her residence in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, during her husband’s 25th posthumous birthday anniversary, HID Awolowo said her husband would continue to be remembered for his uprightness.

The late Awolowo was born on March 6, 1909 and died on May 9, 1987.

At this year’s anniversary, which was opened with holy communion, presided over by  Folusho Babatunji, described Awolowo as a courageous and trustworthy leader during his life time.

Babatunji said the late sage contributed immensely to the development of the country, urging politicians to emulate his selflessness and uprightness in their dealings.

Also speaking, Mrs.  Omotola Oyediran, the first daughter of the late sage said her father would be remembered for his  determination and highly  disciplined character.

Oyediran said her father was completely selfless, the attitude which she said the late sage regarded more important than himself.

According to her, “He was highly disciplined man which we thank God and he was very determined and he had a focus and a vision and he kept strictly to it throughout his life. I will say maybe one in a million; you won’t come across such a human being from time to time. He was completely selfless and he regarded this more than himself.”

In her remarks, Mrs  Ayotola Ayodeji, a grandchild, described the late sage as a great leader and a wonderful grandfather.

Ayodeji said her grandfather affection and love for the family would be greatly missed, saying “Baba was a great leader during his life time and his birthday was considered as a cheered celebration. We celebrated him while he was alive , why won’t celebrate him now that he gone.”
