Edo PDP guber primary: I was rigged out – Imasuagbon

By Simon Egbegbulem, Benin City
GOVERNORSHIP aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State , Mr Kenneth Imasuagbon, yesterday, said what happened at the just concluded governorship primary in the state was “scientific rigging” perpetrated by the leadership of the party.  The fraud, according to him, will not stand.

Imasuagbon, who came second in the contest which was won by the former Commander of the Army Finance Corps, Gen.Charles Airhiavbere, declared that the leadership of the party had murdered democracy in the state, declaring, “We will make sure that no matter what they do, only the people of the state and not the leaders will determine who wins the July 14, 2012 governorship election in the state”.

But reacting, the Edo PDP chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, who commended Imasuagbon for taking second in the contest, insisted that the exercise was free and fair, adding: “The exercise was conducted by a serving Minister of the Federal Republic and we all observed that the process was transparent more than we have ever witnessed in the state before”.

In order to calm the aggrieved Imasuagbon down, the former Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, visited his residence yesterday. And to win Imasuagbon back to the ACN where he was a member before joining the PDP, Governor Adams Oshiomhole, the South South Vice-Chairman of the ACN, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and former House of Reps member, Mr Patrick Obahiagbon, have urged Imasuagbon (The Rice man as he is popularly called) to come back to the ACN.

According to Imasuagbon, “we were ready for a change, real change until the instruction came. But I want to thank party delegates especially those from Edo state who stood their ground to defy the instruction of the so-called leaders. I won four local governments in Edo South against their so-called choice candidate. But we cannot relent on our determination to make a change”.
