IBADAN- FOLLOWING last week’s attack on Ido Local Government Secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State Police Command has arrested 12 people including five security staff of the council who were on duty at the time of the attack.
This hint was dropped by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Olabisi Okuwobi while speaking with newsmen yesterday.
Some hoodlums attacked the council carting away property worth millions of naira and left other property of the local government vandalised.
According to the police, the suspects are being detained at the State Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Iyanganku, where they would be interrogated to know their level of involvement or otherwise during the attack.
The police explained that seven suspects were arrested in the area as a result of alleged involvement in the vandalism of a motorized borehole constructed by the council. Five suspects had already been arrested by the police shortly after the attack.
Explaining why the security men were arrested, the police spokesperson added that they were on duty when the hoodlums attacked the council.
Contrary to earlier claim that millions of naira was stolen, she said the council management did not disclose whether money was stolen or not.
