BENIN—FORMER Director General of the Centre for Democratic Studies, CDS, Prof. Omo Omoruyi and Concerned Youths of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Edo State, have urged warring members of ACN not to disrupt Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s developmental strides in the state.
Reacting to the crisis in the party as a result of the disagreement over who becomes Oshiomhole’s running mate for the 2012 governorship election, Prof. Omoruyi insisted that the governor must be allowed to pick his running mate at the appropriate time, expressing confidence that the governor will win the forthcoming election “because of his achievements so far and not because of any individual.
He said: “That is Oshiomhole’s prerogative. They should leave him alone. If they are not careful, they will play into the hands of the enemies.”
The ACN youths in a statement by Omoregie Jacob, said: “This issue of who becomes Oshiomhole’s running mate is not supposed to be a problem. Ize-Iyamu is a respected leader of ACN but he should know that it was Oshiomhole who made him powerful in the party. We detest a situation where people start intimidating the governor over the issue of running mate.”
