The Lagos State  Ministry of Commerce and Industry has accredited the Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria(BCA), saying it is to legitimise their business activities in the State.

Adebayo Ademola, Principal Field Officer of the Ministry,  said the accreditation of BCA was part of the series of programmes laid down by the State government for artisans.

“The Lagos State government in its series of programmes for artisans has made it possible for this association to have a good foundation. In the process of making our state a mega city, there is a need to give guideline for the bus conductors which we recognise as a viable business.

“The association will monitor the conductors and we will set the guidelines and make sure that they follow the rules. Their database will be in our system and we will administer the association like all other registered association in Lagos State.”

The BCA National President Mr. Isreal Adeshola, stressed that his organisation will provide a credit scheme, medical insurance and lawyers for litigation against the conductors.

He also stated that the conductors will have a particular uniform and identity card which removes the former notion that conductors were irresponsible people.

On its mode of operation, Adeshola noted that it will no longer be possible for any bus owners to pick up miscreants on the road and turn them into bus conductor and drop them at the end of the day.

“It will no longer be business as usual because anybody cannot pick up a boy or man anytime of the day and turn him into a bus conductor. Our association will regulate and monitor the activities of the conductors throughout Lagos State.”
