LAGOS — The Police in Lagos, yesterday, said it was too early to say whether killers of a female banker on Sunday, in Ajao Estate, Lagos, were hired assassins, saying ongoing investigation would determine that.

The command’s position is coming on the heels of suspicion by close friends, that the 25-year-old deceased, Damilola, was killed by hired assassins.

There has not been any arrest yet, as the assailants reportedly fled the scene immediately they shot Damilola, who was on her way to church at about 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Part of ongoing investigation, as reliably gathered, centred on report that the gunmen numbering two, alighted from their motorcycle, an action considered unusual for robbers.

It was also gathered that the deceased bag was searched by the gunmen, who collected only her BlackBerry phone before shooting her at close range on the neck, which sources said was also unusual for robbers.

Police sources told Vanguard: “We are looking at all these premise. But we cannot just declare the killing a clear case of hired assassins because investigation is still on. We are going to make some arrests, from where we hope to get a lead.”

On the killing, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Jaiyeoba, said investigation into the killing had begun.
