Bauchi – A cross section of  residents of Bauchi  have called for vigilance after the killing of a businessman by unknown persons on Saturday.

According to them, there is a need for members of the public to alert security agents about suspicious persons seen lurking around their neighbourhoods.

Speaking on Monday,  the residents described what happened on Saturday night along on Ahmadu Bello Way as “tragic and highly condemnable”.

Alhaji Musa Isa, a resident of the new GRA quarters, expressed shock after receiving the news on the radio that a
businessman was shot dead in his shop by suspected  armed robbers.

He said it was unfortunate that people, who were in the area, did not even attempt to stop the fleeing robbers.

“It is a shame that an innocent person running his legitimate business should be killed in cold blood because of his possessions.

“People around the area where the incident happened should have, at least, pursued the killers discreetly to see where they are heading to so that they can alert the police.”

A student,  Malam Aminu Sadi, also expressed regret at the killing, saying “We must wake up to the challenges of these irresponsible individuals who have no value for human lives”.

NAN reports that the deceased was a younger brother to Alhaji Ali Maikilishi, the leader of the Association of Citizens of Niger Republic resident in Bauchi.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Barau, confirmed the killing and said they had opened an investigation into the matter. (NAN)
