Lokoja – The by-election scheduled to hold on Saturday at polling unit 003 of Oturu-Opowu ward in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi, has been shifted to Wednesday.

The State Acting Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr James Dakop, told reporters in Lokoja on Saturday, that the commission was forced to postpone the state assembly election due to the non-inclusion of the logos of APGA, CPC and NTP in the ballot papers.

Dakop described the development as unfortunate but said that the decision to shift the election was arrived at to forestall unnecessary litigations that might arise if the election had been held as earlier scheduled.

“It is only proper that we include their logos. We are appealing to the people to bear with the INEC, to be patient and accept the little mistake,’’ he said.

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja nullified results of the state assembly election held in April last year in the unit and ordered a re-run to determine the actual winner between Mr Gabriel Daodu of the PDP and Mr Abiodun Aiyedun of the Labour Party.

Nine parties, including the ACN and ANPP were among other parties that had indicated their willingness to participate in the election.

Dakop appealed to the parties, voters and other stakeholders to bear with the INEC on the postponement, stating that the move was to further create a level-playing ground for all candidates contesting the election. (NAN)
