7 with gunshot wounds after police, protesters clash

KANO (AFP) – Seven people were being treated with gunshot wounds after police clashed with protesters Monday in the northern  city of Kano during a nationwide fuel price strike, a Red Cross official said.

“We now have 14 casualties,” said Red Cross official Musa Abdullahi. “Seven of them have gunshot wounds while the rest sustained injuries from beating and falling down in the confusion.”

He added that he only had figures from one hospital and that the Red Cross was going to other hospitals where it has been told other wounded have been admitted.
