CALABAR- Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has described as a disgrace to government, the recent closure of University of Maiduguri as a result of Boko Haram attacks.
Soyinka, in an interview after delivering a lecture at the Cross River University of Technology, CRUTECH, said he felt ashamed that the Nigerian public and the government could allow the universities to close down over activities of fanatics.
He said: “I think it is a disgrace that we should allow an institution to be closed down by a bunch of fanatics. I think it is a disgrace to the government and the entire university system. It is a disgrace that we should accept to be intimidated in what is our proper environment and environment of learning.”
