Bode George’s celebrated release from prison and criticisms; the trial of sacked bank chiefs, with Akingbola’s alleged N47.1bn fraud; post-election killings in the north, Boko Haram bombings in Suleja; bombing of Police headquatres; UN House bombings with over 20 people killed; kidnapping of billionaire Jimoh Ibrahim’s mother, Mrs. Omofemiwa Ibrahim; the arrest and trial of former Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, over N40bn fraud; Arowolo’s killing of his wife in Lagos; the murder of Lagos businessman, Kazeem Ademoye, by his wife, Ngozi Ademoye, who claimed her husband was a cultist; soldier/police clash in Lagos with the dismissal of Sunday Ayodeji, the army Lance Corporal who drove on the BRT lane; the recovery of rocket launchers, dynamites and other ammunition from kidnappers den in Lagos; another murder of Lagos bank manager, Emeka Nwazuruike, by his debtor’s brother over the repayment of an N11m loan.
Others are the ABSU rape saga that caused an uproar when the rapists posted the video of the act on the internet; the Badagry soldiers, police clash that left Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Samuel Saliu, his Divisional Crime Officer, (DCO), Samson Kudesi and several others dead; the revelation of the killing of 124 policemen in Lagos by bandits in 9 months; man that plucks out his wife’s eye for ritual; the arrest and trial of Governors Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo state, Gbenga Daniel of Ogun state and Aliyu Akwe Doma of Nassarawa state over alleged N101 billion fraud. Former governor of Gombe state, Danjuma Goje docked over N52bn corruption charges.
Other reported stories in the year include; How I was maltreated, raped by two men – 9-yr-old (househelp), whose story brought tears to many eyes; man, Remigius Odo, who ran amock, beheaded wife pregnant with twins in Enugu; and the arrest of Boko Haram spokesman, Ali Sanda Umar Konduga (a.ka Al-Zawahiri) with Senator Ali Ndume.
And when you think the year is over, the killing of Chief Ogbe Onokpite, candidate of the Citizens Peoples Party (CPP) in the Delta State 2007 and 2011 gubernatorial elections on 26th November wrapped up the major crime reports of the year (that is if another story does not break in the next minute)
