Pandemonium at Mile 2 as soldiers, Okada riders clash

By Anozie Egole
LAGOS — There was pandemonium at Mile 2, along Oshodi- Apapa expressway, yesterday, as a group of fully armed military men shot sporadically into the air in an attempt to escape from being lynched by an angry mob, made up mainly of Okada operators.

Trouble started earlier this week when operatives of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, policemen and soldiers tried to impound some motorcycles, saying the order was from the state government.

Government had earlier banned Okada operators from plying expressways in the metropolis of Lagos.

The Okada operators said their action was the only effective way of expressing their disappointment over the state government’s ban.

Some of the riders, who pleaded anonymity, accused the state government of frustrating their efforts to eke a living, despite paying N200 monthly due to the government.
