Omolubi blames Boko Haram scourge on FG’s amnesty for militants

By Emma Amaize
WARRI—A member of Delta Waterways and Security Committee, DWSC, Warri, Delta State, Mr Omolubi Newuwumi, has faulted the amnesty granted militants from a particular tribe in the Niger Delta region by the Federal Government, saying that it was partly responsible for the current violence by the Boko Haram sect.

Speaking in Warri, Delta State, he said: “I had argued against the idea of granting amnesty to people based on tribal cleavages. If you give amnesty to militants from one tribe today and also create a ministry to cater for their needs, not taking into consideration some of the surrounding circumstances,   the agitation will encourage violence tomorrow.

“As a result of the amnesty granted to a group in the Niger Delta, militants from another tribe will start their own agitation. They will eventually be granted amnesty and they too will have a ministry created to attend to their demands.”
