Nsukka Police launch ‘Operation Show Strength’

By Chinenyeh Ozor

The Enugu State Police Command has assured indigenes of the state and visitors for the Christmas and New Year celebrations of their safety, saying it was battle-ready to make the state uncomfortable for criminals who might want to perpetrate criminality.

To match word with action, the Nsukka Area Command received a new Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC, with a stern warning to hoodlums and kidnappers to either turn new leaf or stay away from the state.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police in-charge of Nsukka Command, Mr. Mohammed Danjuma Lawal, told Crime Guard that the APC was not only meant to beef up security in the command but also to match force with that of criminals intending to terrorise the state, particularly in this festive period.

Explaining that the APC was a machine that could be used anytime and anywhere robbery operation is taking place, he said, “ the APC was delivered by the state command to check the nefarious activities of robbers, terrorists and kidnappers, which has been a security challenge not only in Enugu but the nation at large. Our advise to criminals, therefore, is for them to leave Nsukka and the entire Enugu State or meet their waterloo. There is no going back in the just-launched ‘Operation show your strength.”

To drive home his point, all police patrol vans and those of the military drove round the university town, in an exercise the Area Commander said was to send a note of warning to criminals.
