The FederalGovernment says the major thrust of its transformation agenda in the powersector is to ensure improved electricity supply to the citizenry.
The Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji, stated this during the commissioning of a brand new N131 million 60MVA, 132/33 KV power transformer in Owerri.
“The attainment of this lofty goal is predicated on the construction of critical power infrastructure, as well as the reinforcement of existing network facilities across the country”, Nnaji said.
It was the considered view of the Minister that “the commissioning of this new power transformer is a result of the federal government’s prompt action in replacingthe burnt 45MVA power transformer in this sub-station with a brand new 60 MVApower transformer”.
Speaking also,Governor Rochas Okorocha lamented that public power supply has been a major problem in Nigeria, stressing that the nation’s stagnating economic milieustems from this ugly situation.
He appealed to the federal government to upgrade the facilities in Orlu and Okigwe zones ofthe state, adding that “we can’t ask for anything better than steady powersupply.
