BENIN- Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Edo State, yesterday, engaged in a war of words over comments credited to Governor Adams Oshiomhole on his relationship with late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
Women and youths under the aegis of PDP Watch, Edo State chapter, protested to the secretariat of the party in Benin City, calling on the state House of Assembly to call on Oshiomhole to explain his recent comment on the matter.
Madam Seigha Egbuson, who led the women and Mr Andrew Ogiehor, leader of the youths, alleged that the interpretation of the governor’s comment, that late Yar’Adua assisted him financially and morally meant that the Court of Appeal, which sacked the PDP government of Prof. Osarhiemen Osunbor was manipulated in favour of Oshiomhole.
However, state chairman of ACN, Mr Thomas Okosun, described the claim as laughable, saying that the governor’s comment was “self-explanatory, so if they want to fight the late President in his grave, let them go on.
“The governor was trying to explain that the late president was a great statesman, who believed in rule of law, justice and equal rights. He tried to explain that the former President even acknowledged that the election that brought him into power was fraudulent even though he was a PDP member.”
