Bombings: Govt should account for lost lives – Union

By Emeka Mamah
National Union of Textile Garments and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, has condemned Christmas day bombings of churches in Madala, Jos and Damaturu in Niger, Plateau and Yobe states, respectively, saying those who should ultimately account for the death of innocent Nigerians, “are the elected and appointed public officers paid to protect us.”

The union described the development as clear manifestations of evil.

The union, in a statement by its General Secretary in Kaduna, yesterday, said: “Nothing justifies why innocent Nigerian worshippers would be so dastardly and cowardly murdered on a remarkable day like Christmas.”

The statement, entitled Forces of Social Justice, Unity, Patriotism and Peace Must Unite to Confront Anarchy, National Disunity and Terrorism, read in part: “We hereby condemn the unfortunate and cowardly bomb attacks across Nigeria on Christmas day in Madala Niger State, Jos in Plateau State and Damaturu in Yobe State, which reportedly left scores of worshippers dead and many injured.

“This is one criminal, dubious and callous attack too many. No bombing is acceptable but serial bombings of worshippers, whatever their faith, are most satanic, un-Godly and clear manifestations of evil.

“Federal Government should justify the huge security vote which is almost a trillion naira in next year’s budget by protecting sacred lives during festivals and indeed at all times.”
