IKEJA – Lagos State Government, Wednesday, arraigned Mr. Akolade Arowolo, accused of stabbing his banker-wife, Titilayo, to death, before an Ikeja High Court.
Arowolo, who was docked on a one-count charge of murder before Justice Latifa Okunnu, was said to have killed the wife at their residence, in Isolo, Lagos, on June 24, this year.
The charge against him by Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Mrs. Olabisi Ogungbesan, read, “Arowolo Akolade (M) on or about June 24, 2011, in Ikeja Division, murdered one Omozoje Arowolo.”
It said the offence was punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Law Cap. 17 Vol. 2 Laws of Lagos State.
The moment the charge was read to him, Arowolo, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
However, his counsel was silent on bail for him. He was returned to custody.
The DPP prosecuting the suspect, told the court that all was set for the trial.
The trial judge assured that the case will be handled with dispatch, and fixed three different days, including January 12 for trial to start.
His counsel requested for all documents intended to be used by the prosecution.
The court directed the DPP to furnish the defence counsel with the said documents at the earliest possible time.
The 30-year-old Akolade Arowolo wed Titilayo in November 2008, and they lived together as husband and wife until June 24, when the woman was killed.
