Mr Anthony Oghenevwogaga Ebireri is the chief operation manager of Dakento Limited, producers of Matador Energy drinks.
The president of Rainbow Charity Organisation, Lagos State chapter and a Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) chairmanship aspirant in the forthcoming local government polls in Sapele, Delta State, unveiled what he calls his 12 point -agenda to meet the yearnings of his people if he becomes their council boss, among other issues. GAB EJUWA brings the excerpts:
Why are you gunning for the chairmanship position?
The passion to see my people enjoy the dividends of true democracy is what is driving me to contest and become the chairman of Sapele LGA. My current place of work is very unique and encouraging. The directors have passion for true development of the country, thus anyone that has a passion for development in any ramification is encouraged by the directors, ·the country comes first before the company.
As we all know, Sapele local government council was one-time the second or third town in the entire Nigeria. As we speak, the town is not even occupying the first 720 or 740 position in local government scheme of things. It pains me because I am an indigene of the town and I was born and brought up there. I enjoyed the area when it was real Sapele and I did a lot of good things then.
If you go to Sapele today, it is a child of itself. I believe that our past leaders have done what they are capable of doing but I would say that the expectations of the masses are not yet actualised. I want to vie for the local government chairmanship position to bring my experiences and contacts to bear and ensure that the local government area occupies its premium position as one of the top 10 local government councils in Nigeria within the next four years. What is known as “Sapele glory.”
Why did you choose to contest in DPP which is not popular in the state?
You got things wrong, because I have been involved in Delta State politics since 2003. The gubernatorial re-run election of Great Ogboru is a testimony where over 70 percent of Deltans queued behind DPP. The DPP is the only viable party that we have in Sapele and Delta State in general it controls over 80 percent of the awareness.
What are your developmental projects?
My development projects? Education, sports reformation, health improvement, infrastructural development, social/ cultural reformation and agricultural revolution, operation feed Sapele (OFS) farming programmes and the enhancement of FADAMA commercial, etc farming projects, women youths and aged empowerment. These are my priorities.
What is your advice for the DPP supporters and the people of Sapele in general?
They should see me as a Chief Servant, instead of a council boss. My coming into politics is voluntary, not a do-or-die affair. I want to use my current position, contacts and network to develop Sapele LGA so that it would be good for everybody. Everybody would be carried along in every programme that would be executed and they should get ready to work with me. I can’t do it alone and the people would have to work with me to achieve my 12 point- agenda programmes that I am showcasing all over the place.
Based on my antecedents and the fact that my admirers know me very well, they have used this opportunity to mobilise grassroots support for my candidacy because they believe I can deliver. My supporters have also assured me of becoming the chairman of the local government in the next election.
