HOMICIDE detectives at the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba are currently investigating the death of a middle-aged man who was stabbed to death during a fight at Oniru Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The deceased whose identity was given simply as Ope, was said to have gone to the beach in company of his friend to catch some fun when he died.
Crime Alert gathered that an argument which cause is yet unknown erupted between him and one Sadiq Mufutau and they engaged themselves in a bloody fight.
An eyewitness who spoke with Crime Alert said they watched the duo fight viciously with dangerous weapons after a heated argument and one of them was stabbed on his abdomen. He reportedly slumped and died.
An eyewitness who simply identified him- self as Shittu told Crime Alert that the moment the deceased slumped, everyone around the beach took to their heels.
“ I saw them arguing but I don’t really know what led to it. But the next thing I saw on them were sharp broken bottles and then they held it across their faces. All of a sudden, I saw one of them bleeding from his abdomen and he slumped after a while.
“Other picnickers watching the fight took to their heels. I also joined them. But I also don’t know if they came together, but I saw them seated together before they started fighting”.
Efforts to get the management of the Oniru Beach to comment proved abortive, but the Lagos State Police Command Spokesman, Samuel Jinadu, who confirmed the incident said homicide detectives at the SCID are currently investigating the case adding that Mufutau is currently being detained in their custody, while Ope’s remains have been deposited in a Morgue.
