Former Super Falcons coach Niyi Akande is confident that the women’s team will scale through the barrier of the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in today’s final Olympic qualifier in Yaounde .
With the Falcons taking a slender 2-1 first leg advantage into today’s crunch tie, Nigerians are sceptical of their ability to survive in Yaounde. The recent setback suffered by the Eagles in the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea, is still fresh in the memory of most fans, who fear that the Falcons might go Eagles way.
But speaking with Saturday Sports Vanguard, Akande believes that Coach Eucharia Uche would not lead Falcons to defeat as Coach Samson Siasia did with the Eagles.
He insists that the Falcons would bring back the smiles to the faces of disappointed Nigerian fans
“I see our women beating Cameroon, which will bring hope to Nigerians again.. Uche Eucharia is different from Siasia. She would not lose that match in Yaounde. They can’t afford to lose now because Nigerians need a positive result very much after the Eagles setback. With the incentives already given to them and the promised ones on the way, I see the players already motivated to go for the win. With such motivation, I’m very sure they will win with a difference,” said Akande.
