Calabar Golf Club woos Army officers

Captain of the Calabar Golf Club Eja Dons Esege has pleaded with the officers and men of the 13 Brigade, Nigeria Army Calabar to consider being part of the corporate membership of the club like their counterparts in the Navy.

Captain Esege who made the plea at the 51st Independence Anniversary Golf tournament sponsored by the Brigade Commander, 13 Brigade, Nigeria Army, Calabar, Brigadier General Shehu Yusuf said that the army has young officers who could be good golfers.

He said that the Calabar Golf Club that was established in 1991 has Navy as the only corporate member, and pleaded with the Brigade Commander to help in introducing young military officers to join the club.

Captain Esege also pleaded with the command to help in beefing up security at the Golf Club, saying that security at the place had been porous.

Sponsor of the tournament and Brigade Commander of the 13 brigade, Brigadier General Shehu Yusuf said he sponsored the event to cement the existing relationship between the army and the community.

General Yusuf represented by the Commanding Officer of 146 Battalion Col. Hassan Dada promised that the Brigade will continue to contribute to the growth of the club and commended the Managing Director of Pamol Nig. Ltd, Mr. Emmanuel Bassey for his support.

A young golfer, Udiba Dien emerged winner with a nett score of 68 and a retired Captain in the Nigeria Army, Adebayo Adegun became the runner-up after garnering 70nett. The two-some played in category 17-28.

Former Captain of the Calabar Golf Club, Mr. P.K. Bello emerged in category 6-16 after returning a nett score of 71. Playing off handicap 14, Mr. P.K. Bello outwitted Friday Akpan who also recorded 71 net on count back.

The veteran winner was Ambassador Eddy Agbe. In category 0-5, Peter Simon returned a gross of 73 to emerge the champion, Solomon Dominic came 2nd with 77 gross, while Isreal Joshua was placed third with a gross of 81 and Ignatius Sunday was 4th after scoring 84 gross.
