Alleged illegal land deals: Ogun lawmakers threaten arrest of ex-commissioners, others


ABEOKUTA-The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Lands and Housing weekend, threatened to declare some former commissioners, a permanent secretary and other aides  that served under  the administration of former governor  Gbenga Daniel  wanted, if they fail to appear before it, today  to explain their roles in alleged illegal lands deals.

Chairman of the committee, Remmy Hassan, while announcing the invitation of the House to the affected persons advised them to appear before the committee in their own interest.

According to Hassan “failure to appear as summoned, shall result in the invocation of the provision of Section 129 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which empowers the House of Assembly to order their arrest.”

Those summoned,  include;  ex-commissioner for Housing, Mrs. Jokotade Odebunmi, her counterparts in Finance  Kehinde Sogunle and Health Dr. Isiaq Kunle Salako, another former commissioner for Housing.

Also, summoned are former Director General of Bureau of Lands, Gbenga  Ogunoiki, former governorship candidate for the Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN, in the April elections, Mr. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, who was at a time the Chairman, Gateway Holdings and former permanent secretary, Ministry of Housing , Ayo  Vaughuan.

The Committee is probing lands allocation, acquisition, revocation, revenue and sale of government property during the administration of Gbenga Daniel, who is currently facing a 16-count charge of corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

According to Hassan, they were summoned to appear before the committee to explain their roles in the alleged ridiculous sales of some government property and their alleged complicity in some acquisition of lands and other property.
