ENUGU—Hundreds of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members in Amechi Idodo/Oruku ward in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu, yesterday, staged a peaceful protest over alleged imposition of a councillorship candidate on the people of the ward and alleged certificate forgery by the contestant.

The aggrieved party members alleged that Mrs. Clementina Ogbu, who was selected as PDP councillorship candidate from the ward to contest the December 3 local government election in the state, was not qualified to represent the ward since she did not emerge through a primary election.

They further alleged that Mrs. Ogbu until her emergence last Thursday as the ruling party’s councillorship- flagbearer, was serving as a Level 4 Clerical Officer at Nkanu East Local Government Area where she claimed to be Nwatu Obiageli C, adding that she did not resign from her position before contesting the council poll.

Displaying placards, some of which read, “No Primary Election for councillorship in our ward on September 22, 2011”, “We want PDP state and Local Govt of Nkanu East to intervene on this before it is too late,” We want ENSIEC to look into the matter.”
