.. Including a four months old baby?

Tragedy struck again in the early hours of Sunday in Jos, Plateau state. In the LGA called Barkin-Ladi when a group of bandits suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, snuffed life out of a family of eight, including a four months old baby in a midnight raid.

The ugly incident occurred at about 2.00 a.m. on Sunday when the marauders, armed with sophisticated weapons, numbering about 30, sneaked into the village and attacked members of the Chollom Gyang family who were sleeping.

The report said that the assailants forced their way into the premises of this family home and shot them at a close range. They went further to butcher the bodies to be sure that they were dead before they bolted away.

In the raid, the bread winner of the family, his wife and six children were brutally killed. The fourth child in the family survived because he was away when the assailants called.

Speaking with newsmen on the situation, the chairman of the LGA called on the Federal Government to investigate activities of the military deployed to restore peace to the state, adding that many of them were compromising their professional calling.

The report states that this house was the only house visited in the community. Why were they killed in the first place? If the parents have done some kind of wrong, did the children commit too? Is it religiously or politically motivated?  What gain can anybody possibly get from taking lives of people, especially children?

We know that wickedness abounds in different sectors of life today and forgiveness is an extreme virtue. But is it right to be wicked to children who do not even know what happened?

I don’t know why anybody would pick a gun and snuff a life he cannot create? Was there any satisfaction after these deaths? Don’t the killers have children at home? In life what goes around comes around and whatsoever a man sows that’s exactly what he shall reap.
