OSOGBO—Osun State Executive Council, yesterday approved a N480 million contract for the emergency work on Ede Water Works to boost water supply in the state.
The contract was awarded at the inaugural meeting of the Exco in Osogbo.
At a briefing after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere, said the contract would be for six months and entail the provision of pumps, generators and transformers among others.
He said the SEC also approved the establishment of Osun State Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme, for the state to access funds for the Osun Rural Enterprise and Agricultural Programme, OREAP, among others.
He said the approval was to make funds available for committees involved in the state’s agricultural programmes before the end of the planting season.
Akere said the council also approved the plan by government to source for a loan for the payment of counterpart funds for the Universal Basic Education,UBE, programme.
He said: “The meeting in addition approved contract for the dredging of Osogbo Township River which was awarded to Accord Engineering Limited recently before the formation of the cabinet and appealed to the striking workers over the implementation of minimum wage, to negotiate with the government, with a view to ending the strike.”
