In view of an Abuja High Court’s directive requesting the Nigeria Premier League, NPL, to organize fresh elections into the chairmanship position initially occupied by Davidson Owumi, the NPL Board has charged the electoral committee through its acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Tunji Babalola to conduct elections within the stipulated date.

Making this known to Inside Out Premier League after the decision was reached by the Board, the chairman of its media committee, Akin Akinbobola disclosed that “The board met today (Wednesday August 10) and a letter from the NFF was handed over to the acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Tunji Babalola, which directed the NPL to organise fresh elections within the thirty days stipulated by the court, the Board mandated him (Mr. Babalola) to call the electoral committee into action for a smooth organisation of a fresh election.”

Asked about his candidature in the election, Akinbobola said, “it is uncalled for and unnecessary because there are processes for getting nomination. If they are saying that Davidson Owumi is not the Chairman and that there should be fresh election and not nomination for those that were nominated already.

I have nothing to say about my candidature for the election because as I was part of those that were nominated during the election that brought Owumi in before all these court cases. Owumi, Ramson Baribote and I were those that were nominated for the last election.”
