Students protest alleged killing of colleague by Police

ABEOKUTA – A student of the Tai Solarin University of Education, TASUED , Jagun, Ijebu-Ode, identified as Olawale Musiliu Lasisi, was allegedly shot dead by policemen said to be hunting for some suspected cult members.

 Two other students were also said to have been shot in the process.

The incident was said to have infuriated students of the institution who consequently protested at the police Area Command in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode.

The protesters barricaded the Ijebu-Ode–Ore Expressway with bonfires, causing traffic build up that which lasted for several hours.

The management of TASUED thereafter shut down the institution for one week and set up a panel to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the violence.

 A source said alleged rape of two female students by suspected cultists was the  cause of the crisis.

 It was gathered that the suspected cultists posted the nude pictures and pornographic video clips of their victims on Facebook and YouTube social networking sites, a development which sent tongues wagging on the campus.

A parent of one of the victims was said to have reported the matter at the Igbeba Divisional Police Station and the Area Commander subsequently ordered his men to fish out the perpetrators of the
heinous act.
