AWKA – Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, yesterday, at Nnewi, Anambra State, destroyed fake products worth N20 million, warning that from August 15, any trader found with fake products would be prosecuted.
Products destroyed included motorcycle parts with brand names of Kotec Industries Ltd, Ngobros Nigeria Limited, K.M.C. Products, among others, all based in Nnewi.
The parts were imported from Asia by those described as unscrupulous importers who connived with foreigners to lower quality of such brands before importing them.
SON’s Director-General, Dr. Ikem Odumodu, who educated Nnewi business community on new measures by the organisation to rid markets of sub–standard products, said after the August 15 deadline, importers of products not covered by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme, SONCAP, would pay a penalty of N250,000 in addition to having their products destroyed.
