WARRI — Delta State Comptroller of Prisons, Mr. Emma Bassey, has ordered the arrest of the warder, an Inspector of Prisons, who allegedly facilitated the escape of two prisoners during last Saturday’s jail break at the Okere Prison.
The prison boss, who visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, expressed displeasure with the security put in place at the Okere prison, one of the oldest in the country, which allegedly made it easy for the prisoners to escape.
Vanguard sources disclosed that “the Comptroller of Prisons, Delta State, visited us on Monday and ordered the arrest of the Inspector of Prison, who allegedly opened the cell gates, which eventually facilitated the prisoners’ escape. He said the Inspector is the principal suspect for now.”
It was learnt that the Assistant Comptroller-General of Prisons in charge of Zone “D”, Mr. D. Ayodeji, also visited Okere Prisons to assess the situation and expressed disappointment with the security arrangement on ground prior to the jail break.
