Ghana stop Nigeria again

Ghana seem to be confirming their current superiority over Nigeria in football.
After stopping Africa’s champions, the Falcons from the All Africa Games they have gone further to make a stronger statement over Nigeria by eliminating Nigeria’s Olympic team from the festival  in Mozambique slated for September.

Two goals, one in each half in Kumasi Sunday ended Nigeria’s dreams of any medal from football in Maputo. They played better and deserved their victory.

It took only 10 minutes for them to fire the opener. Badu found the net with a free kick that the Nigerian keeper, Theophilus Afelokhai had no answer.

Shortly after this the Ghanaians missed two close chances that would have given them a resounding first half lead. But they needed not worry for Richard Frimpong was, in the 71st minute,  to score a goal that they needed to cancel out Nigeria’s 3-1 first leg win in Benin.

After the Benin match the Ghanaians repeatedly dubbed the Nigerian team not good and said that they would emerge triumphant in Kumasi. Their game yesterday proved that they were not just boasting. They knew what they could do and they did it superbly.

Ghana reached the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup after their Under 20 team won the FIFA Under 20 World Cup. Nigeria fell out in the second round of that tournament and crashed out in a shameful way in the first round in South Africa 2010 World Cup. Now, they have clipped two Nigerian teams from any further progress to Maputo. Could do more.
