Nigeria coach Samson Siasia expects the Nigeria Under-20 team to do well at the World Cup despite their poor build-up to the tournament.
The Flying Eagles finished a four-nation invitational with two losses and a single draw, but Siasia is convinced that the team will excel when crunch time comes
“Sometimes you don’t do well on all these pre-World Cup matches, but I’m sure when they get to the real one they will do better,” Siasia said.
John Obuh’s wards won the African title scoring in almost every game, but have found goals hard to come by in recent games. Siasia believes the mistakes will be corrected at the tournament
“They have the capability to improve as the competition gets underway. The team is good and the technical crew is also up to the task.
“I am sure when they get to the real games they will try to get more goals and at least try to improve on their mistakes in their build up matches which was far from being impressive.”
Nigeria open their campaign on July 30 against Guatemala in Armenia. The game kicks off at 3pm local time (9pm Nigeria time).
