Kaduna—A Kaduna Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued a bench warrant against a 43-year-old retired army officer, Col. Aliyu Pada, for allegedly duping the Nigerian Police Force and two companies, Toluque Nigeria Ltd and SAP Concept Nigeria Ltd.
The accused, who was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating, had earlier been granted bail, but failed to appear in court when the case came up on Wednesday.
The Police Prosecutor, Shola Olodowa, told the court that the accused had in November 2009 approched the Managing Director of Toluque Nigeria Ltd, Mr Olugbega Ogunsanya, and demanded the company’s expression of interest in a proposed Federal Government’s housing project.
He alleged that Pada told Ogunsanya that he had already contacted another firm, SAP Concept Nigeria Ltd, a consulting firm, which he would partner with to handle the housing project for the Nigerian Police, Olodowa told the court that the accused had purportedly presented himself as a member of the Presidential Task Force on Police Housing Project.
He said the accused later came back to Ogunsanya to inform him that his company had been shortlisted by the consulting firm to participate in the housing projects.
Pada, it was alleged, requsted Ogunsaya to pay N2.5 million, which would be taken to the office of the Inspector-General of Police to facilitate the project documentation.
Olodowa further told the court that the money was paid into a personal UBA account No. 00430020007686 for onward transfer to the office of the I-G.
He said that during police investigation into the case, it was discovered that the contract was not genuine.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Samson Kwasu, who issued the warrant, threatened to revoke the bail granted to the accused, and adjourned the case till July 28.
