Kano – FOUR persons died while eight others were hospitalised in Kano and Takai (65 kilometres north of Kano metropolis) due to the outbreak of gastroenteritis, at the weekend.
Meanwhile, health authorities in the state has embarked on sanitisation of open wells and other sources of drinking water in the area.
The officials who went round the town and other surrounding hamlets offered curative attention to the victims to forestall the spread of the disease.
The Primary Healthcare Cordinator of the council, Malam Mansur Abdulkadir told reporters that the outbreak of the disease did not, however, reach a ‘’crisis stage’’, adding the situation was under control.
Abdulkadir confirmed that four persons died, while eight were hospitalised at the Takai General Hospital.
The Cordinator stated that proactive measures had been applied to curtail spread of the disease and appealed to the residents to visit hospitals whenever there was an outbreak of any disease in future.
Meanwhile, the state government has placed health workers in the state on red alert.
