GOVERNOR Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has warned the newly sworn-in chairmen of transition committees in all the twenty local government areas of the state against abuse of power and vendetta.
Speaking after the inauguration of the chairmen at June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto,Abeokuta, Amosun described their emergence as a means to “handling the onerous responsibility of taking governance to the grass root”.
The governor urged them to see their appointment as a call to duty and service to the people, hinting that “even though the challenges are enormous, we believe that by working together, we can surmount them”.
According to Amosun, the chairmen must see themselves as servants of the people and “ the watch-word must be selflessness”. He however expressed concern on the management of the environment, saying a situation where “litter and dirt cover our roads and neighbourhood is not desirable. I therefore give you a special charge on waste management and maintenance of clean environment “.
Speaking on the significance of their emergence, Amosun acknowledged that local government is very close to the people at the grassroots, saying its performance or otherwise was easily felt by the people.
