4,000 vulnerable children identified in Ebonyi

ABAKALIKI – Wife of  Ebonyi State governor, Mrs. Josephine Elechi, said yesterday that her office had identified 4,000 vulnerable children in the state who are in need of financial and educational assistance to improve their standard of living.

She said the identification of  children, screened in the 13 local government areas of the state, was possible after she constituted the Orphan and Vulnerable Children, OVC, Committee, saddled with the responsibility of ensuring better life for less privileged children in the state.

Mrs. Elechi, who disclosed this in Abakaliki during a get-together organized for less privileged children, noted that her office, in conjunction with Rentmeester Foundation of the Netherlands, was currently involved in giving both financial and educational support to 77 vulnerable children in the state.

She said:  “We have identified about four thousand vulnerable children in the state and with the help of Rentmeester Foundation, we are touching the lives of 77 children by giving them educational support.”
