By Demola Akinyemi, Ilorin

Some  members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party[PDP] in Kwara State are trying to control their  anger over the return of the elder statesman, and second republic Senate leader, Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki, to the party.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, who investigations showed has been deeply involved in the reconciliation moves, was also claimed  not to be comfortable with the entire scenario, but had to lie low now and play along pending the outcome of the petition filed by the opposition ACN at the tribunal which would determine his stability or otherwise in government.

A top member of the party who craved anonymity, in an interview with Sunday Vanguard, said,  “No sensible governor will react in the scenario Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has found himself. He was singlehandedly installed by Dr Bukola Saraki, and with the petition against him by the ACN at the tribunal, and don’t forget too that the Sarakis and Belgores are Ilorin people, there will always be a meeting point, so as an Igbomina man the Ilorins can turn the table against him now.”

The return of the elder statesman and his supporters to the PDP, if not tactically handled, might also ultimately lead to protest of members  over the sharing of political appointments and other patronages, and also opt out of the party to the opposition party.

The elder Saraki, one of the founding fathers of APP and then ANPP, had, had to leave the party over the second term ambition of the late Muhammed Alabi Lawal in 2002 and joined the PDP to realize the governorship ambition of Dr Bukola Saraki in 2003.

The founding fathers of the party [PDP] the Sarakis met,  left in anger while others stayed in the party and resigned to their fate alleging hijack of the entire party and government.

The family had reconciled over the outcome of the last elections and that Dr Olusola Saraki, aside having 30% of the proposed cabinet members, has been vetting the party’s appointment list.

It would be recalled that the elder statesman who openly declared severally that he was not a card carrying member of PDP had directed his teeming members to leave the party when his daughter Senator Gbemisola Ruqqayat Saraki could not secure the PDP gubernatorial ticket of the party in the last elections.

The supporters of the elder statesman formed the new Allied Congress Party of Nigeria[ACPN], the platform which Senator Gbemisola Saraki and other loyalists of the second republic Senate leader contested for various elective posts and lost in all.

Vanguard investigation also revealed that members of the ruling party are angry that having worked for the success of the party, the elder Saraki who worked against the interest of the party is now a deciding factor on who get what in the party.
