Don’t hinge minimum wage on revenue allocation, NLC tells state govts

Sokoto – The payment of  N18,000 minimum wage by state governments should not be hinged on the review of the national revenue allocation formula, Alhaji Danyaro Tambuwal has said.

Tambuwal, the Acting Chairman of Sokoto State chapter of  Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),  in Sokoto on Saturday, said  that since the new wage law had been law enacted, it must be implemented.

“We commend the review of the current revenue allocation formula being used for the three tiers of government but this should not be hinged on the implementation of the minimum wage,’’ he said.

While commending the state governments, which had begun its implementation, Tambuwal said the new minimum wage, if fully implemented, would improve the welfare of workers.

He said that the three tiers of government should address the welfare of workers and other citizens.

“The workers, in turn, owe it a duty to be productive, diligent and patriotic; and above all, operate with the absolute fear of God,’’ he said. (NAN)
