Enugu – Mr. Aniefiok Okpongete, Co-ordinator of the NYSC in Enugu State, has dispelled the rumour that some NYSC members of the state origin were killed in the post-election crisis in Bauchi State.
Okpongete told newsmen, yesterday, in Enugu that it was not possible to bury a dead corps member from Enugu State without informing the NYSC in Enugu State.
He said: “It’s a national issue and very pathetic. We in Enugu State must thank God that no corps member from Enugu State died.
“There is no casualty from Enugu State. No corpse has been brought and there has been no burial as well in Enugu State. I have not heard about any evacuation from the state.”
Okpongete said the withdrawal of some corps members by some state governments was a political decision to empathise with those affected, but had no constitutional backing.
He condemned the killings of corps members and stressed the need to educate Nigerians to have value for human lives.
