Nigerians in diaspora allege disenfrachisement

OWERRI – Nigerians in diaspora are working out modalities to end what they described as their long and continued disenfranchisement in all elections in the country.

Disclosing this during an interview in Owerri, the Coordinator, Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Council in North America, Mr. Kenneth Anyika Onuoma, also said that a body, Nigerians in Diaspora Action Council, NIDAC, was in the offing.

“The birth of NIDAC will regenerate, re-invigorate and re-awake the lost voting rights of all Nigerians living outside the shores of the country,” Onuoma said.

He appealed to members of the National Assembly to initiate and pass into law a bill that will make it possible for Nigerians living outside the country to vote for candidates of choice in any election in the country.

He said: “If operational, Nigerian embassies all over the world can, like what obtains in America, Europe, South Africa, Iran and Haiti, conduct, collate and announce winners and remit such results back home to the electoral umpires for final verdict.”

He also decried what he called the jealousy that trailed Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo’s ascension as Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
