The stage is now set for the final of the 2011 Channels Television kids cup scheduled to hold today,May 27 at the Campos square mini stadium in Lagos.
In the semi final decided Thursday, tournament favourites, Mimofera primary school, Lagos Island defeated Last year’s finalists,Doctor Soyemi Memorial primary school,Festac town 3-1 to set a final clash with UNILAG staff school,Akoka.
UNILAG staff school,winners of the inaugural edition needed a 9-8 penalties victory to edge out Saint Stephen primary school,Lagos Island after the highly entertaining encounter had ended 1-1 at regulation time.
NOA thanks Ogba
The Nigeria Olympians Association (NOA) has expressed gratitude and appreciation to the President of the Atlantic Federation of Nigeria, Chief Solomon Ogba, for his support for the body. Chief Ogba, who is also the Second Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, recently undertook to finish the secretariat of the Olympians body located at the first floor of the National Stadium Complex, Surulere, Lagos.
“We’re grateful to Ogba for fulfilling his promise to finish our secretariat with the state of the art furniture, says Prince Henry Amike, the President of NOA.
A letter dated May 24, 2011, and signed by the secretary of NOA, Superintendent of Police Sunday Bada, notes the contributions of Ogba to sports development in the country and thanked him for being a friend to Nigerian athletes.
“Ogba has always been a friend to the Nigerian athletes. He demonstrated it when he was the Commissioner of Sports in Delta State and he’s doing it as the boss of AFN.
“That he has chosen to identify with the Nigeria Olympians is a demonstration of his love and passion for sports development in the country, and we’re grateful to him” Bada noted in the letter.
The Nigeria Olympians Association is currently working on a blue print to ensure a healthy welfare package for Nigerian athletes.
