Man jailed 3 yrs for impersonating Court registrar

MINNA-A Bida Magistrate’s Court has sentenced one Alfa Ndagimba Abdullahi to three years imprisonment without an option of fine for  parading himself as senior court registrar and duping innocent people of money.

Abdullahi was brought before the court on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating, punishable under sections 322 and 312 of the Penal Code.

When the charges were read to Abdullahi, he pleaded guilty and pleaded the court to temper justice with mercy.

Police prosecutor, Corporal Mohammed Yahaya, had told the Chief Magistrate,Hajiya Hauwa Musa, that  the convict was not a first offender as he had a similar case pending before the same court and therefore urged the court to give him a summary trial moreso as he had pleaded guilty to the charges.

While passing her judgment, Hajia Musa said she would not take the case lightly because of the bad image he has given to the Judiciary.

She said: “leaving you to move freely, especially when you still have a similar case pending before this court would not speak well of the court and so, you must be sanctioned accordingly.

“You are physically fit to engage yourself in a legitimate business to earn a living but you want to reap from where you did not sow and therefore, you are to spend the next three years in prison on the two-count charges to serve as a deterrent to others.”

Hajiya Musa also ordered the convict to refund N51,000 to the victims he defrauded.
