Family of slain activist cries for help

By Anayo Okoli

Umuahia – THE family of Dr. Ugo Shallom, a human rights activist and Founder of Action Aid for the Unemployed, AAU, who was kidnapped and killed in June last year in his Ugbelle, Imo State, country home, has cried out over the security and whereabout of his wife and children.

The family said the whereabout of the woman, Mrs. Ugo Shallom, and her children, was not known since they were said to have fled from their Abuja home on account of threats by kidnappers.

They were said to have gone into hiding but the family said they could not be reached.

Mother-in-law of the slain activist, Mrs. Irene Odu, disclosed that the whereabout of her daughter, Mrs. Ugo Shallom, and her two children have remained unknown since they allegedly fled their Abuja residence after several attempts to kidnap them.

Late Shallom, a native of Ugbelle Umuaka in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, was said to have been abducted at Umuaka Market Square where he had stopped to buy few things on arrival from Abuja, where he was residing.

The family was also worried that since June 14, 2010, when Shallom was killed, his murderers were yet to be apprehended by security agents.
