Elechi tasks kerosine dealers on price reduction

By Peter Okutu

ABAKALIKI-GOVERNOR Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State yesterday called on dealers and distributors of both petroleum products, especially kerosene, to assist the federal government  ensure that prices were reduced to an affordable rate to all Nigerians.

He noted that the reduction in the prices of the products was necessary, considering the untold hardship it had caused the people, adding that if the trend was not checked urgently, it might lead to increase in the level of crimes committed in the state.

Elechi, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Solid Mineral Development, Petroleum Product Pricing and Distribution, Abakaliki, Mr. Ifeanyi Ike, appealed to kerosene dealers, especially tanker drivers, to ensure that they got products at reasonable rates within the depot, instead of getting it outside the depot.

He said: “The one they buy off depot plus transportation cost from Lagos State to this place is higher and they always add it up to make their profit.

“They should struggle to get this product inside the depot and sell it to our people at N50 or N60. We are not happy with the present scarcity of kerosene in the state. Some dealers are now selling for N150 and N160 and this is unbecoming.”
